This summer you can’t get more powerpop for your dollar than the “What Happens In Vegas” Tour, headlined by Sin City’s own The Cab. Alex Marshall (guitar/keys) took a break from rocking out with his tourmates (The Secret Handshake, A Rocket to the Moon, Eye Alaska, Anarbor, The Summer Set, and My Favorite Highway) to tell Guerrilla Radio what is happening in Vegas.

Guerrilla Radio: How is the tour going so far?

Alex Marshall: The tour has been awesome! We’ve never really done a real nationwide headliner so going into that is always kind of headbanging, but we’ve been really fortunate so far in the tour. Only a few shows haven’t sold out, the kids reactions are awesome and we’re super fortunate to be on tour with all the band that we’re with, they’re all really good people.

GR: How is your relationship with the other bands?

AM: It’s just like a huge family. Sometimes you’re on tour with people and you just see them during the day at the show and that’s it. You just go to the next town. But we go to lunch with all the bands, we hang out. It’s just a big family. We play our shows, we stay at the same hotels. We’re always together and it makes it like a family and it’s easier to make it through the tour comfortably and have a good time.

GR: How is it playing with [new guitarist] Bryan Dawson?

AM: When we were going through the change we were worried about finding another guitarist that could pull his weight. Fortunately he’s very good at guitar and a very positive person for us to be around. I think it’s actually even better than it was before. He meshes with us really well onstage and he’s a good dude to have around.

GR: What do you bring on tour to stay sane?

AM: An iPod and my computer. If I didn’t have my computer I’d probably go insane. I bring a MIDI keyboard to record music with. It keeps me sane. I just track music to kind of lose myself on tour.

GR: Is there any gear you’re nerding out on right now?

AM: Right now for my guitar rig I’m using a Hughes and Kettner head and I’m using an Orange 2 x 12 cabinet and I’m super happy with that. I like the super high gain amps. I just love that beefy distortion tone. I love that. The main guitar I play is a Les Paul, which is super thick sounding. I work with Korgs for my piano. I use the Korg M3 88-key and I could not be happier with that. I love it.

GR: What are your plans for the fall?

AM: Right now we’re finishing up this tour August 9. Then we’re headed back to home and we’re going to go to L.A. and we’re going to be writing for the next month and a half. Then hopefully we’ll go right into the studio.

GR: Any ideas on a release date?

AM: It would probably be early next year. It really depends on how soon all the songs come together. We have a lot of demos right now that we’re very happy with, but we could always have more. It’s always good to into the studio with as much as you possibly can.

GR: Anything else you want to pass on to the readers?

AM: Hope to see you guys on this tour and come hang out!
