“In Avanti” is the perfect mix of melody and malice

Alexx Calise is mad as hell and she’s not gonna take it anymore. For In Avanti, the follow up to 2007’s Morning Pill, the Los Angeles based singer/songwriter has piled on the crunching guitars and dialed up the animosity, singing pitch-perfect melodies with vitriolic lyrics about betrayal and love gone wrong.

In Avanti sounds positively huge. Slick production highlights Calise’s stellar voice and strong songwriting chops with album standouts like “Good Enough” and “Out Of Sight.”  Varied sonic textures, beeping electro beats and massive drums propel the album forward at a breakneck pace. Listeners  can take their pick between moshing and dancing as the album alternately rages and grooves.

And just when you think you’ve got Calise all figured out she throws in a heartbreaker or two like “Cry” and “See You Again.”

Calise also manages to find a niche of her very own and sound just like herself. In Avanti is a strong sophomore effort from on of the most original upcoming artists on the scene.
