Top 7 Electro-Indie Blend Bands

Music genres are as amorphous as they are hard to define. Lately I’ve noticed that I’ve been getting into what I call a new genre - a mix of electronica and techno elements with indie-alternative styles. Or indie bands adding keyboards and awesome electric effects in order to turn themselves into electro-indie hybrids on album 2 or 3. In any event, these are some bands you should definitely consider checking out:

7. Ima Robot - Canned beats and wicked choruses from this hipster band can make almost anyone get out of their seat and sing “Creeps Me Out.” Great blend of electronica and alternative that’s worth checking out.

6. Cobra Starship - Everybody loves Gabe and the crew at Cobra Starship. They’re weird, and they sing songs about pooping for the paparazzi, but they can melt wanna-be electro-indie bands with one chord on the keytar.

5. Shy Child - If you like keytars, crazy drumbeats, and gettin freaky, give these guys a shot.

4. Metro Station - I know. I know. These guys are kiddie pop icons on par with Hannah Montana (well not that bad), but they have a terrifically catchy sound and they really know how to mix the electro sound with the truest of pop-punk themes. A+.

3. The Bravery - Specifically the alternate version of their second album, The Sun and the Moon, is very electro-inde. But their other joints definitely lean that way, and you can’t help but get up and dance when The Bravery comes on.

2. The Faint - From Omaha, this band has been around for a while, and they’ve basically pioneered the electro-indie genre. More people probably list The Faint as the #1 band of all time than do Aerosmith. Ok, that’s probably not true. More COOL people list them as the #1 band.

1. Innerpartysystem - These guys are from Pennsylvania and have hands-down the best new sound of any band in the last year or so. They also have the most awesome lights show at their live performances. Download “The Way We Move” from ITunes for a sample, or get their self-titled LP if you really like awesomeness. Seriously, it’s worth it!
