Exclusive Warped Tour Interview with Jay and Christian of There For Tomorrow

tft1

Florida’s There For Tomorrow are playing Warped Tour in its entirety this summer. Guerrilla Radio caught up with bassist Jay Enriquez and guitarist Christian Climer to talk about Warped Tour, their new record A Little Faster, and yes, the fast forward sign.

Brennan: Well first off congrats on the new record, it’s awesome. So what did you guys do different on the new record then on the EP?

Christian: Well, I don’t think it was so much like I was trying to do something extremely different, we were just really wanting to grow as a band. When Maika was writing the basis for the songs that are on the EP, he was like 16 or 17 years old when he was writing the lyrics for that and a lot has changed from then until now and on the songs on the new record. I think it was just a lot of like a growing step for us.

Brennan: Do you have anything to add to that?

Jay: Um, no just the same thing he said that we really just wanted to progress musically, not so much change what we were doing.

Brennan: For sure man. Well it’s a great record, congrats on that. And then this question is kind of random but, like the fast forward sign on the record, do people think they’re D’s a lot?

Christian: [Laughter] Actually that’s a funny question cause like I have it on my arm right here and uh, I’ve actually got asked a couple of times by like random people that don’t know our band, like I’ll be in a mall in like random somewhere, someone will ask me like, “What does that mean? Are those D’s?” So I have been asked that before.

Brennan: That’s funny dude, yeah that’s come up man. So you have to defend it sometimes and be like, “No man it’s a fast forward sign.”?

Christian: Well it’s kind of like, I don’t know, I guess it could be mistaken for that [laughter].

Brennan: Well cool man, so you guys played some dates on the Warped Tour what was it, like two years back?

Christian: Yeah, well we did four dates last year, and I mean you guys played it you know even before I was in the band

Jay: Yeah yeah.

Christian: Like Florida dates and stuff.

Brennan: But this time you guys are doing the whole tour right?

Christian: Yes sir.

Brennan: So how has Warped Tour been so far? How has it treated you guys so far?

Jay: It’s hot. [laughter] It’s really fun you know, it’s a learning experience. Just a lot of different things take you by surprise, cause it’s stuff that you have to learn and experience on Warped Tour. So definitely just learning and growing.

Brennan: So I know when you guys were playing you mentioned you were stoked to see Thrice, but other than that when you’re not like interviewing and signing and playing, who are you guys watching?

Christian: Gee, like I honestly haven’t been able to watch that many bands since we’ve been out here, cause we’re always out and about like at our tent trying to sell stuff. Bands that I have watched though, like I saw Anti Flag a couple of days ago, they were sick. I saw Thrice today, which was awesome, it was great we got to see them play.

Jay: NOFX is great.

Christian: Yeah, some bands that I want to see that I haven’t seen yet, Less Than Jake. I definitely want to check them out. I’m trying to think who else is… I can’t remember right now.

Jay: There’s a lot of good bands that we’re still looking forward to seeing…

Christian: Yeah there’s so many bands on the tour, I’m trying to think. Oh yeah, I’ve caught Hit the Lights like three times already, cause they’re like on our stage so we like walk by…

Brennan: Well right on, is there anything you guys want the readers of Guerrilla Radio to know, like is there any shoutouts, or something you want to say?

Christian: Yeah, just come hang out with us at Warped Tour if you plan on coming out. Come hang out with us at our tent, we’re always gonna be around, watch us play, and go get our record in stores, A Little Faster.

Brennan: For sure. Right on, well good show, and it’s a good record.

Christian: Thank you so much.

Jay: Thank you so much.

Brennan: And best of luck for the rest of the tour.
